Vedder Bridge Mural Project
Year: 2019
Client: City of Chilliwack
Medium: Spray painting
The City of Chilliwack did a call for artists in early 2019 for mural designs on the Vedder Bridge with the intention to defer graffiti in the city. Rain Awakens was awarded the project through a competitive selection process. The project began in June 4, 2019 and was complete by mid-June.
The project included a piece painted under the bridge, as well as a painting along the retaining wall. The largest portion of the mural, at 90 feet long, reflected the first eulachon and a large sturgeon in the surrounding waters of the lower mainland.
On the first day visiting the site, two deer were in front of the bridge so they were incorporated into the painting walking along the sturgeons back.
