Burnaby Mountain Secondary School Legacy Project

Year: 2021

Client: Burnaby Mountain Secondary School
Medium: Vinyl

Collaborator: Peter Arkell, Pictographic Creative

Burnaby Mountain Secondary School asked us how could we represent their school and community.
I decided the best way would be to include the students. And voila, blossomed our very first Legacy Project.

What is a legacy project?

We held an in-house art competition with the students on their take of First Nation art work, after a teaching session I held in their class rooms. It was a lot of fun, to be honest.

We then took the winnners they chose as a group, for me to choose from to collaborate together on an art piece that represents them and their school. My heart said that all the winners should be included. So, here it is.

This project teaches the students and young ones the process of an art competition and also inspires them to begin their journey as an artist. I did this to blossom more as artists in our ever changing world. And here is the beginning of their art portfolio.

Huge shout out to the students for the collaboration and leaving your legacy on the front of the school! Most of the LGBT/two-spirit flags have been included.

We all do reconciliation in our own way; I choose to use art work as my way to heal and move forward with the next generation.
